OUR HISTORY
Our Patient Participation Group was set up in 1996 in order to improve and extend the facilities to our patients in partnership with the Practice.
Patients were invited by the Doctors to form a committee to start this group. Subsequently a constitution was agreed and good progress has since been made.
The following officers were elected at our last Annual General Meeting.
Chair: Bob Barden
Secretary: Lucy Toghill
Treasurer: Christine Osborne
The officers are supported by a committee which is elected annually.
The Group now holds Annual Health Promotion days and we have recently worked on a project, ably assisted by students from the Design Department at Northbrook College, to completely re-design the waiting room. This improvement has been funded by monies donated to the PPG and has been of great benefit to all patients. We are all really pleased with the results.
Since its inauguration the Friends have purchased a whole range of equipment, not normally funded by the NHS, to support and improve the work of the surgery. These include:
- Hyfrecator for minor operations
- Liquid nitrogen gun for freezing skin lesions
- Emergency oxygen cylinder for resuscitation [already successfully used]
- Spirometer for measuring lung function in asthmatics and those with chest disease
- New ear syringes with electric pulse control
- TV/Video for patient education e.g. Ante Natal courses
- Baby changing pads
- 24 hour blood pressure monitor
- 3 electrically operated beds for nurses treatment rooms.
If you wish to help at events, join the committee, donate money. etc. please contact our secretary Lucy Toghill (536506) who will be delighted to hear from you.
