If you are over 65 years of age or in an 'at risk' group, for example diabetes, heart problems, respiratory condition (asthma & COPD) etc., please contact the Surgery on 01903 222900 to book an appointment at this clinic.

This vaccine only needs to be given once in a lifetime (unlike the seasonal flu vaccination programme which will begin at the end of September). Please look at the website for further details nearer the time or contact the Surgery.

The Health Promotion/Grand Opening Day was a huge success and the Doctors and Staff at St Lawrence Surgery would like to say a huge thank you for everyone that came and supported their special day.

We would like to inform you that we have requested a 'drop off' facility for people with disabilities outside the entrance of the surgery from West Sussex County Council Highways.

We will also be painting white lines in the larger patient car park with disabled spaces, mother and baby and other patient spaces for your convenience.

We also have two wheelchairs within the practice that you are very welcome to borrow to help patients from and to the Surgery.

The reason that we have a large patio outside the main entrance is for safety reasons, as we have had near misses in the past with children and other patients nearly being hit by cars.

As part of our modernisation plan aimed at improving services to our patients, we are aiming to incorporate an independent pharmacy, serving the needs of our local community which will be called Tarring Community Pharmacy.

We are really excited about this opportunity, as we believe that a pharmacy integrated into the running of the practice will improve the care we offer to our patients, through

• Offering a full range of pharmacy services on-site

We believe that this will be in the best interest of our patients.

After discussions with Lloyds at Rectory Road and McCormicks (a branch of Paydens Ltd, a large pharmacy chain who own over 80 pharmacies in the UK) we managed to reach an agreement to buy the licence of the Lloyds pharmacy operated from Rectory Road. Subject to appropriate approvals it will be re-located into this building but this will NOT be a Lloyd’s pharmacy; it will be owned and run by a separate business, jointly owned by the GP Partners of the surgery.

NHS West Sussex (Primary Care Trust) have approved this relocation, but it is subject to an appeal by Paydens Ltd who are actively petitioning to appeal this decision. A final decision will be made by the Pharmaceutical Appeals Committee and we do not expect to hear a decision until later in the year.

We will of course keep you informed of any developments.

We would like to give you an update on the future plans of St Lawrence Surgery.

As you are probably aware, the practice’s new extension continues apace. This project has been funded by the doctors, helped greatly by extremely generous grants from West Sussex Primary Care Trust (the health authority), the Deanery (the organisation in charge of training junior doctors to become GPs), very generous donations from our patients and fundraising from our wonderful and hard working Friends of St Lawrence Surgery Patient Participation Group.

As you are probably aware, the practice’s new extension continues apace. This project has been funded by the doctors, helped greatly by extremely generous grants from West Sussex Primary Care Trust (the health authority), the Deanery (the organisation in charge of training junior doctors to become GPs), very generous donations from our patients and fundraising from our wonderful and hard working Friends of St Lawrence Surgery Patient Participation Group.

As part of our modernisation plan aimed at improving the services, we also hope to incorporate a pharmacy. We have been in discussions with a number of local pharmacists and hope to be able to relocate a local pharmacy into our new building. This will provide a pharmaceutical service integrated into the running of the practice with the aim of improving care to our patients, for example by better access and more responsive services.

The new build will also include an invaluable education wing. This will prove useful to delivering a better service to our patients by educational activities provided by midwifes, the health visitors, and patient education and community groups.

We will also have a suite of new rooms for the teaching of medical students and for training qualified doctors in family medicine.

It is an exciting time and we will keep our patients and future patients informed as the building approaches completion.

Another example is an interactive white board for the new education room. This will allow teaching sessions to patients and other health care professionals to be presented in a modern, technological way, with ceiling projectors, internet access etc.

We are now holding Commuter/Carer Clinics for people that are unable to attend the surgery during the normal working hours. These are from 7.30 a.m. in the morning and two late evenings on a Monday and Thursday until 7.30 p.m.
